Barca’s Koeman Clings onto Job

INTERNATIONAL: Barcelona’s beleaguered coach Ronald Koeman says he still believes he has a future at the club, even though it would seem most people around him disagree. His car was mobbed by unhappy supporters after Barca’s latest defeat last Saturday. Koeman says he considered getting out of the car to confront the crowd, but claims his wife advised against it.

If the players are feeling a bit fed up with their coach, they aren’t showing it. They’ve been back in training this week, hoping to finally score some wins that will lift them up the LaLiga table.

Their coach, Ronald Koeman, is arguably the most unpopular figure in Spanish football, but maintains that despite his team’s mediocre results, he’s still the man to lead Barca to its goals:

"This is something that I enjoy. If the day comes where I no longer enjoy this, then I will peacefully leave. I would play golf five times per week. It is also a beautiful sport. I still want to follow this path. Continue to improve the team. I understand that it is a delicate situation, but I think I have a future within the club."

How much longer for though is anyone’s guess. Barca are under pressure to turn things around. After nine matches in this season of LaLiga, they have just 15 points and are ninth on the log – six points behind leaders Real Sociedad, who do have a match in hand.
